Director, choreographer, dancer, writer and teacher, Andrea Palmer has spent over 30 years studying and performing dance. Originally from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, her pursuit of excellence has led her to some of the finest institutions in the world including the National Ballet School of Canada, the Alvin Ailey School of American Dance, and the Jose Limon Institute in New York City.
Her credits include performances for both television and film, choreography for the Grand Opening of Montreal's Theatre National, Artistic Direction and choreography for Flexx (an annual summer dance festival in Montreal which attracted over 3500 spectators), a tour of United Nations Army bases in Bosnia / Herzegovina, as well as performances with Mikhail Baryshnikov and the White Oak Dance Project during the Festival International de Nouvelle Danse (2001).
Her unique and dynamic approach to the teaching of dance has made her a sought after guest teacher at summer dance programs across Canada. Several of her former students are now enjoying professional careers in dance.
A member of the Professional Adjudicators Alliance, Andrea has served as adjudicator for the Manitoba Provincial Dance Festival, the B.C. Annual Dance Competition, the American Dance Awards Canadian Tour, D-Force, Shine and Terpsichore Dance Festivals, to name a few. She has performed and shared her passion for dance across Canada, the United States and Europe.
In 2006 Andrea was honoured to offer master classes in Saint Petersburg, Russia and in England thanks to a grant from The Canada Council of the Arts. From 2007-2010 she continued to share her passion for dance in Norway as director of the jazz dance program for the Ørsta Volda Balletskule.
Andrea returned to Montreal in 2010 where she continued to inspire a new generation of dancers at many of Montreal’s finest institutions including; The School of Ballet Ouest de Montreal and L’École Supérieure de Ballet du Quebec. For 2 years she organized and directed a series of dance intensive workshops called Brilliance geared toward the emerging professional dancer in Montreal. Andrea was one of the original teaching faculty at Les Grands Ballets Canadiens; Les Studios.
Andrea holds a Master Degree of Art (Dance) from the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM, 2018) as well as a Graduate Diploma in Arts Management from Queen’s University (2019).
Andrea Palmer became the Artistic Director of the Kingston School of Dance (Ontario) in 2018. She founded the Kingston Youth Dance Ensemble in 2019. During her tenure as Artistic Director, she created several new initiatives including the KSD Wellness Series (2020) the Aspirant Dancer Program as well as an annual summer dance intensive featuring renowned professional dance faculty.
She has since returned to Montreal where she continues to share her passion for dance.
